Nach vier Jahren Evaluationsverfahren, geleitet durch die armasuisse, und der Zustimmung des Volkes am 27. September 2020 zur Beschaffung neuer Kampfflugzeuge, hat Viola Amherd heute bekannt gegeben, dass die aktuelle Flotte der Schweizer Luftwaffe, bestehend aus 30 F/A 18 und 25 F-5 Tiger durch 36 F-35A von Lockheed Martin ersetzt werden soll. Die Auslieferung der F-35A Kampfflugzeuge beginnt voraussichtlich im Jahr 2025 und soll bis Ende 2030 abgeschlossen sein. Ergänzt wird das Luftverteidigungssystem der Schweiz durch fünf Bodluv-Systeme des Typs Patriot des Herstellers Raytheon.

Der Entscheid ist mutig, da die GSoA mit Unterstützung der SP und Grünen bereits vorgängig angekündigt hat, eine Initiative gegen den Typenentscheid zu starten, sollte ein amerikanisches Flugzeugmodell gewählt oder ein Skandal vermutet werden. Genau so mutig wie der Entscheid ist, ist er aber auch richtig.
Die Flugzeugbeschaffung wurde demokratisch beschlossen und der Bundesrat hat heute aufgrund der Evaluationsdaten und aller Vorgaben einen rechtmässigen Entscheid getroffen. Diesen gilt es nun zu akzeptieren und ohne weitere Verzögerungen umzusetzen.
